Why the Name Henry & June?
Romantically speaking, American author, Henry Miller and his beautiful wife June, a real-life couple made famous through the erotic diaries of Anaïs Nin, were ahead of their time. Together, they refused to pay attention to Victorian boundaries and bucked every system and society that would attempt to stifle them.
For example, during the 1930's, while living in Paris, Henry lusted for his notoriously sexual and flighty wife June, but found the coy innocence of family friend, Anaïs Nin, too tempting to avoid.
Henry and Anaïs had a torrid love affair, documented in detail within her reknown diaries. But the real surprise is that Anaïs' true desire was not so much for Henry as for June! The forbidden affair between the two insatiable women was brief, but according to the diaries of Nin, none the less memorable and satisfying!
Henry & June lived lives of fantasy, tragedy, unconvention and obsession; lives that some might consider too roguish to forgive. But because they were, if nothing else, sexual revolutionists and lovers of love, we decided to pay tribute to their adventurous attitudes by naming our store after them.
In a way, we all want to be Henry & June . . .
